History Brought to Life.
Historical performance has been around for a long time, but it is just now coming into its own. Historic sites are recognizing and capitalizing on historical performance as a means to compete for the attention of various publics while also educating.
The language of historical performance, however, is not well defined. Hence, communication problems sometimes occur between program planners and those they think they might want to bring in to entertain and educate their public. Museum staff might not know whether a re-enactor and a historic performer are the same thing. And what is a chautauqua? A living history demonstrator? Will they charge us? How much? What will we get in return?
This website will answer some of these questions for you as well as introducing you to what programs are available from professional historic performers in Kansas.
